Saturn in Aquarius, December 17, 2020-March 7, 2023

Saturn in Aquarius Dec 17, 2020- March 7, 2023

Saturn doesn’t always have the best of reputations. He is sometimes called the “great malefic”, but that is only by those who resent the harsh lessons he brings us.

Saturn is a stern teacher. He places trials and tribulations on our path to test us. How do we react to obstacles, delays, stumbling block, and difficulties? Do we complain, blame our bad luck, try to escape the ordeaOr do we take our responsibilities and accept those limitations and sorrows with wisdom and strengthen our character.

Saturn’s ultimate lesson involves time. Nothing of lasting value is built quickly. Time tests the solidity of our relationships, the foundations of the structures we create, and the depth of our resolve. But what was shaky, untrue, or imaginary, time destroys.

So yes, he is the great malefic to those who insist on holding on to falsehoods, hypocrisies, lies and illusions. But he is a blessing to those who are ready to squarely face reality and accept the duties and obligations that will help them mature into responsible adults.

Before Uranus was discovered at the time of the French and American revolutions, Saturn ruled both Capricorn and Aquarius. Now, he only rules Capricorn, but is still very comfortable in Aquarius, his old sign.

During the passage of Saturn in Aquarius, we experienced a pandemic, various lockdowns, many travel restrictions, the loss of jobs and relationships, and as a result, a huge transformation of our lives. All of a sudden we found ourselves obligated to play by the rules of authorities that seemed to serve more their personal interests rather than the real needs of the general population. Many became resentful at being told what to do that did not feel right or even fair.

Even though Saturn is comfortable in Aquarius, it doesn’t mean that Aquarius appreciates Saturn’s call to duty. As authorities exerted more pressure, and imposed more restrictions, many people refusing to conform to the limitations to their independence, erupted in rebellion. Unwilling to accept any authority but their own, they acted sometimes erratically. Others found themselves conforming, just because they wanted to feel safe and secure. All around there was a strange  lack of common sense (like hoarding toilet paper for example?)

Through unexpected developments and incredibly unstable conditions, we all are going through extreme highs and lows. On one level or another, those strenuous events are exposing built up tensions. Hidden aspects of everybody’s personality are emerging revealing dissensions we had never seen as clearly. This is leading to separations with people we thought we would be with forever, and surprisingly brings back friends we had lost, as well as makes us closer to new acquaintances.

This 2020- beginning of 2023 period is crucial for humanity’s general evolution. Saturn in Aquarius brings a confrontation of the old and the new, the need to redefine our dreams and objectives. What wasn’t working is exposed in a blinding light: the job we hate, the boss we cannot get along with, the toxic partner, the home that doesn’t fit our needs anymore, the negative circumstances, the places where we feel stuck… Rigid structures, outmoded situations have to be overthrown. Everything that seemed stable in our lives went off balance, leading momentarily to a loss of security.

Thanks to the most unusual situations created by the lockdowns and the necessity to work from home, many decided to change their career altogether, or move to the countryside, or transform their relationship. Sometimes the reshuffling was so intense that  all of the above was transformed. A strong desire to lash out, expand our horizons, and feel free motivates action. We are asked to juggle the old while laying the foundations for the new. As we are giving form to new ideas, we are also finding that asserting our freedom within imposed limitations comes with a price.  Establishing new conditions entails a lot of work. True to nature, Saturn increases our responsibilities, and requires of us a maximum of discipline and focus.

Saturn is also the lord of Karma… In so many ways, this 2020-beginning of 2023 period is bringing to each of us the results of our past actions. Saturn in Aquarius asks us to answer 3 questions:

-       what have we done?

-       What is it that we didn’t do?

-       How should we proceed from here to create the future we want.

Our short comings could come to haunt us, while past good actions, wise decisions, positive motivations, previous hard work and discipline are resulting in great rewards.

Saturn rules aloneness, while Aquarius rules humanity. In an interesting way we never found ourselves more isolated than during this period, and at the same time more connected to people we never would have met otherwise. As we realized that we had nothing left in common with some friends and family, others entered our lives with whom there is a deep connection. Joining like-spirited groups became a way to not feel so lonely. Humanitarian movements become more organized and structured when Saturn is in Aquarius.

As we look at the world how it was as opposed to what we think it should be, we are lead  to the creation of new, improved social conditions. Saturn rules old age, while Aquarius rules youth, helping us establish a bridge between the generations.

We also have more time to reassess our life objectives.

This period invites us to pay more attention to communication, but also quiet our mind, meditate, focus on our inner self, create plans and implement growth. With Saturn in Aquarius we want to further our ambitions, gain a position of more control in our lives, and find new, original ways to put innovative ideas into practical form all through our own efforts. This cycle is very conducive to deep studies.

If we look back to where we were in December 2020, it may seem like another lifetime.

By March 2023, we shall have given birth to a new reality both collectively and individually, much truer, and more authentic.

Much love and light!
